PCI Geomatics Recognizes Academic Excellence of Carleton University Students

Gatineau, Quebec – November 29, 2011: PCI Geomatics today announced that it presented academic excellence awards to three of Carleton University’s top students in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies.

All three students have worked with PCI’s Geomatica software during the course of their academic careers, which is a key teaching tool used by the University. “We use Geomatica to teach the fundamentals of Remote Sensing in our courses; the software is also used in research projects and thesis work since it supports a broad range of image processing capability and allows us to work with many different types of image data and formats,” said Doug King, Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies. “We appreciate the continued support and recognition that PCI provides to our students – they have earned their awards thanks to their dedication in pursuing excellence and advancing the field of Remote Sensing and GIS.”

The awards were presented to Blair Kennedy, Will Parkinson, and Amanda Viveen - top students who are studying in the Department - in recognition of their excellent work and high academic achievements. Blair Kennedy is a two time recipient of the award, and is currently enrolled as a graduate student, working towards obtaining his PhD; Will Parkinson is also enrolled in the graduate program – working towards completing a Master’s degree; and Amanda Viveen is finalizing her undergraduate degree – with a specialization in Remote Sensing and GIS.

PCI’s Director of Marketing, Kevin Jones, commented, “The Geography Department at Carleton University has an excellent program and offers students access to leading edge technology, such as PCI’s Geomatica software. As a graduate of the program myself, I can attest to the high quality of teaching and excellent opportunities to not only build domain expertise and knowledge, but also to obtain hands on experience using commercial software – giving the students an edge in a competitive job market once they graduate.”
