PCI Geomatics Announces New Upgrade to its Geomatica Software Including its Advanced SAR Polarimetry Workstation

Richmond Hill, Ontario – June 8, 2009: PCI Geomatics, a world leading developer of geo-imaging software and systems, today announced the availability of an upgrade to its remote sensing and image processing software. Geomatica® 10.2.1 is the latest version of the image-centric desktop software which provides users with additional satellite sensor support as well as new functionality for the SAR Polarimetric Workstation (SPW).

As an industry leader in supporting satellite sensors, PCI Geomatics has included in this release support for RapidEye – a constellation of five sun-synchronous Earth observation satellites which provide large area, multi-spectral images with frequent revisits in high resolution. Additional support for the high resolution X-band SAR imagery provided by TerraSAR-X is also included in this upgrade.

The SPW provides a complete set of tools and applications designed specifically for the processing and analysis of Polarimetric SAR (POLSAR) data, and version 2.1 is now available and compatible with Geomatica 10.2.1. This includes the Touzi Discriminators which make it easier to detect a particular target in a Polarimetric SAR image. The Touzi Decomposition introduces new parameters which remove certain ambiguities not previously understood and provide vastly superior results as compared to conventional algorithms. Additionally, the SPW now supports the following sensors: Radarsat-2, Cosmo Sky-Med and TeraSAR-X.

"With the availability of Geomatica 10.2.1, PCI Geomatics remains committed to meeting the remote sensing and image processing needs of our customers," said Peter Hazlett, Product Manager at PCI Geomatics. "Building on the innovative features found in previous versions of Geomatica, this release solidifies our dedication to being at the forefront of sensor support, as well as to continue to provide innovative tools through our SPW technology."

Geospatial Web Conferencing Technology
PCI Geomatics Releases GeoConference®

Richmond Hill, Ontario – June 22, 2009: PCI Geomatics, a world leading developer of geo-imaging software and systems, today announced the release of its geospatial web conferencing technology. GeoConference Version 3.0 is a software solution which enables groups to share and view maps and images interactively over the web, in real-time. Today’s announcement was made at the World Conference on Disaster Management in Toronto, Canada.

"GeoConference brings geospatial information into a web enabled collaboration environment, giving all conference participants instant, real time access to multiple, shared data sources. This enhances situational awareness and provides GeoConference participants with a common operational picture," said Yves Carbonneau, Chief Product Specialist at PCI Geomatics. "The bottom line is that GeoConference 3.0 allows for effective decision making in critical situations."

About GeoConference Version 3.0:

GeoConference contains tools for hosting interactive geospatial teleconferences, linking clients in remote locations and facilitating connections to geospatial databases.

The benefits of GeoConference include: a cost-effective way to share maps, exchange information and simultaneously receive feedback from colleagues in real-time, reduce travel expenditures, easy set up and implementation, secure distribution of geospatial data without replication, use of open data standards and integration with other geomatics technology.

GeoConference 3.0 gives users control over their sessions through an invitation process they can initiate. This allows anyone who receives an invitation by email to instantly join a GeoConference using a thin client application that installs in seconds. GeoConference includes session recording and review capabilities; an audit trail of activities is stored on the server which can be used for reviewing decisions made in their situational context for a thorough post mortem analysis.

PCI Geomatics Wins Geospatial Leadership Award from GeoTec Media

Richmond Hill, Ontario - June 2, 2009: PCI Geomatics has won the Geospatial Innovator Award from GeoTec Media for its ProLines GeoImaging Server, as announced today at the GeoTec Event in Vancouver, BC.

The category of the Geospatial Innovator Award recognizes geospatial tool developers that have created new software or hardware that expands the possibilities of the geospatial industry. Final nominees were selected from a large pool of applicants nominated by the GeoTec media audience including GeoWorld Magazine, GeoPlace.com and the GeoReport e-newsletter. With a record breaking voting response from around the globe, PCI Geomatics was ahead of its closest competitor by more than 6 percentage points.

Launched in April 2009, the ProLines GeoImaging Server is based on a GPU/CUDA implementation, and has successfully demonstrated the ability to automatically orthorectify 3TBs of imagery per day (approximately equivalent to all of Europe), with plans to demonstrate an 11TB per day system by the end of 2009.

Accepting the award for PCI Geomatics was the Honorable Herb Dhaliwal, Member of the Board of Directors. “We are extremely delighted to accept the Geospatial Innovator Award. The ProLines GeoImaging Server was designed to respond to the market’s need for a faster, less expensive automation technique for processing massive amounts of imagery. With its open and standards based approach it will dramatically decrease the amount of time it takes to deliver critical information on the environment, agriculture, public safety and more; this is especially important in countries such as China and India whereby acute problems affecting millions of people exist.”
